A estimated 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit eastern Turkey this Sunday, collapsing approximately 45 buildings. In an instant, one death was confirmed, but scientists say that the death rate could have ranged from 500-1,000. But the most damage was done at Erics, the mountainous, eastern province of Van. Van itself had also suffered great damage. Rescue workers, had to use there own bare hands to try and pry people from under the buildings that have collapsed on them.
In my perspective, these kind of tragedies are completely unacceptable. That's why, in my mosque, we have an emergecy earthquake drill going on. This drill should be spread into turkey, the middle east, and India, because that's where most of the earthquakes occur. If this measure was to be taken, it is almost guarenteed that thousands and thousands of lives will be saved.
